
Francisco González De la Matta
Bringing a wealth of experience from both high-level public service and complex private practice, Francisco Gonzalez de la Matta has rejoined MZLS. His unique background offers clients a powerful advantage in navigating the intricate landscapes of corporate and commercial law in Puerto Rico.
Most recently, Francisco served as deputy secretary and interim secretary of the Department of Consumer Affairs (DACO) in Puerto Rico. This period in public service provided him with an invaluable perspective on governmental processes, regulatory affairs, consumer protection, and the intersection of public policy and business operations. He collaborated with key industry groups, including the Puerto Rico Retailers Association, during his tenure, gaining firsthand insight into the challenges and opportunities facing businesses interacting with government agencies. His most notable achievements include launching an anti commercial discrimination program that resulted in global companies changing the rules applicable to consumers in Puerto Rico, ensuring equal treatment.
Prior to public service, Francisco focused on complex commercial transactions for national and international companies. His extensive private practice experience encompasses:

Advising on M&A across industries like aviation, fuel, transport, technology, and finance
Managing real estate transactions from due diligence through closing
